Pre-Blenheim Open Water Swims

jbell's picture

Oxford Tri has an annual tradition of helping all new to Open Water Triathlon an opportunity to practice in a lake before you venture out for your 1st race!

Open water swimming is a wonderful experience but it is different to swimming in a 25m heated pool.

Oxford Tri members will take you out in small groups gradually acclimatising you to open water swimming. Over the weeks you will have a chance to practice swimming, swimming around buoys, mass starts, getting out and tips for Transition 1 (including how to remove your wetsuit quickly!)

A huge field , which despite some last minute changes to the line up looked interesting. Welcoming back Giles, Ian L  and Kevin R, but without Maxwell tonight..would this finally be Dans night to take the tape? A big field of ladies too, with 9, including Emma and trudi, back from international competition.

Swim Smooth Clinic

jgale's picture

Oxford Tri has secured the services of Steve Casson, one of the five
UK Swim Smooth certified coaches. He along with a second certified
coach, will be delivering a Swim Smooth Clinic exclusively for Oxford
Tri members on the 17th of June at Oxford University's Rosenblatt pool
on Iffley Road. The Clinic will run from 9:00 to 17:00 and will consist
of classroom and pool based sessions aimed at teaching the latest, most
effective methods to develop your stroke, specific to your needs, your
ability and your body type.

Social and Cycling news

Annie Oberlin-Harris's picture

It gives me great pleasure to announce a new training session- a social
bike
ride from Oxrad every other Tuesday, i.e. the week when the BarTT is
NOT on!
Meet 7pm for 7.15 departure.  Please note this session will be
UNCOACHED as
such, but either Steve, myself and Andy will take the 'lead'
in probably a
pretty ad hoc way!  This session will be more of a social,
get miles in your
legs and pint in your belly at the end kind of basis,
rather than a 50 mile
smash fest.  So all abilities please do come along!!

Signs of Spring

All the signs of spring are here: the trees are budding, the birds are nesting and I am sending emails asking for volunteers for Safety Officers for open-water swimming.  Without Safety Officers, the sessions have to be cancelled, so please look at the attached spreadsheet and start filling the slots.  We still need 1 more for Sat 5 May and 2 for all the later sessions.  Note that Peter Larbalestier is coordinating Safety Officers for the next 2 weeks so email him with dates you can do.

Open Water Swimming - Breaking the Ice

Not literally, but about 20 hardy members braved the cold, rain and wind this morning for the first swim of the season.  We used a shortened circuit so that one could easily get out when one had had enough.  The next session will be at 7 pm on Thursday if I get volunteers for safety officers.  Please look at the attached spreadsheet, check your diary (basically, Thursdays and Saturdays from now until the end of August) and email me (charlie [at] wilson [dot] org) with a couple of dates you could do.

To remind you, there is guidance available on the website:

Slightly better weather this time, or at least a break in the rain! Was good to see some old familiar faces back, as well as welcoming Rob and Anna to their first BAR. Anna was our only lady this evening, as our usual BARTTing ladies are off enjoying sunnier climes. Hence Anna had no competition, and came home iin a very respectable 62 minutes.

This week everyone was home in 70minutes or under, which is very impressive, and we had 7 people under the hour, which i find truly awe inspiring.....!
