Pre Blenheim Open Water swimming for Non Members
Info for Members of Oxford Tri helping at Blenheim can be found on the Blenheim Triathlon Pages.
If you are entered for Blenheim but have never taken part in a triathlon before the open water swim can be quite a daunting prospect!
Oxford Tri is organising 4 sessions in the lead up to Blenheim run by our experienced coach Mike Dunmore and supported by many members of the club. It is an ideal way to familiarise yourself with open water swimming and ensure that your Blenheim experience is as memorable as the location!!
These sessions are perfect for:
- Helping you aclimatise to the water temperature.
- Give you the opportunity to get used to your wetsuit.
- Learn how to swim in a straight line - not as easy as you think!!!
- Making you confident in the water.
- Giving you a taster for how it will be on race day.
- Ensuring you fully enjoy the race.
We do this by splitting in small groups, all groups will be accompanied by at least one experienced open water swimmer and a canoeist on the water at all times. We take our time, in week 1 aclimatisation is the name of the game getting used to the wetsuit and the water. Progression through the weeks until the final session before the Race where we mimick race conditions to give you a taste of what's to come.
Sessions start 9.30 Saturday 10th May at the lake in Cassington (directions below) and then each Saturday following until 31st May.

Directions for Cassington Lake
Take A40 from Oxford City Motors roundabout towards Eynsham. Just before second bridge (about a mile before the turning to Cassington) take turning off to Hanson gravel pits, also signed to M&M skips.
Follow Haul road along (take care of lorries and massive road humps!!!) you will see the large lake on the right - there is a turning at the top end of the large lake - we will meet and park there - by the conveyor belt. It is muddy and there are no changing rooms, luxury it is not!
