The social river swims are running from June until the autumn. Each of the swims will cover a different section of the river Thames around Oxfordshire. Each swim will have its own challenges, as well as offering a chance to explore some of Oxford’s wild natural beauty in a supportive, social group setting. A map of the route will be posted a few days in advance of the swim on this page and on Facebook.
We will meet at the meeting place at 14:00. It is important not to be late to listen to the briefing. Options for swims shorter than the planned full distance will be provided. You should bring your club card with you.
For reasons of ensuring these are safe sessions, participants must be able to maintain around 2.5-3kmph in a pool swim (approximately 100m every 2 mins). In addition, swimmers must have recently completed a distance of 2km in a single swim – ideally in open water, but in a pool would also be acceptable. Swimmers must have a bright coloured hat and a towfloat or drybag. It will not be possible to swim without both of these. Towfloats are available to purchase at Queenford Lake or online. A set of flip flops should be worn to walk from the meeting place to the start of the swim, and then back again at the end – these can be carried in a drybag. Wetsuits are recommended unless you regularly swim without one.
