This is a member organised (non coached) club session. Medium Long, 24- 28 kph (15 – 17 mph), typically 65 - 90 km (40 to 55 miles). Meet at 8:45 for 9:00 start.
A condition of joining any group rides will be an understanding of and adhering to Covid-19 specific guidelines as below as well as the Highway Code and the Club’s own Group Riding Guidelines (here: https://oxfordtri.co.uk/group-riding-guidelines) . By joining a ride you will be deemed to accept these. Anyone not following guidelines may be asked to leave the ride.
Rides are strictly limited to 6 people. If more signup to the wait list we will see if additional ride organisers are avaliable and add additional (separate) groups. The Ride organiser will communicate the start point and time in weekly newsletter email and/or on Facebook.

We are currently required by British Triathlon Federation (our governing body and insurance provider) to store details of attendees for Covid-19 track and trace purposes for at least 21 days following each session. If someone subsequently tests positive for Covid-19 we will provide names and contact details of attendees to the NHS track and trace service as requested. The sign up list on the website will be the means of tracking this so if you sign up for a session and are unable to attend it is important that you remove your name from the sign up list prior to the session. This is now a condition of attendance at club sessions until further notice.
The effective control of Covid-19 relies on people taking individual and collective responsibility. It is the club’s role to facilitate safe activity in line with Government guidance and we want to remind their members and coaches of their individual responsibility so they can make informed choices. Before booking this activity, please undertake this self assessment for any Covid-19 symptoms. No one should leave home to participate in a club or coached activity if they, or someone they live with, has any of the following:
! A high temperature
! A new, continuous cough
! A loss of or change to their sense of smell or taste

1 – Member Organised Session. Group rides are not coached sessions and are not organised by the club. They are member organised and it is the individual responsibility of each rider to ensure they are riding safely and in their own capability, complying with Covid-19 guidelines, the Highway Code and the clubs’s own Group Riding Guidelines. For these reasons Ride Leaders are now called Ride Organisers (RO) to reflect that their role is purely to deliver a route at a safe pace for the group.
2 – Maximum group size of SIX. Do not attempt to join a ride if you are not the RO or one of the five sign-ups. This is important so that we do not exceed numbers meeting or riding but also as this would allow us to trace riders in the event of a Covid-19 contact.
3 – Meet-up. Groups should avoid meeting and starting at the same time and place to prevent groups of more than six gathering. Ideally routes should be different, or if following the same or similar route, groups must not join one another with the slower group allowing the faster group past as soon as it is safe to do so. Groups should not ride within sight of each other. If meeting at Oxsrad, pre arrange a specific meet point away from other groups and definitely away from the entrance to the Oxsrad building, or at different times to other groups.
4 – Group Ride Format. We strongly recommend riding in a spaced side by side formation where road conditions allow and safe to do so. This would be in pairs spaced at least a metre apart sideways and at least 1 metre clear space between front and rear wheels, upto three pairs (six total riders).
5 – Experienced Riders Only. At this time, due to the extra demands of group riding, we are recommending only more experienced riders should take part, with particular attention paid to joining a group of the correct pace/level.
6 –Social Pace Only. While rides offered will be of different pace/speeds, for the time being all rides must be at a social pace to suit the group. Social means no racing, surging etc and maintaining a steady, conversational pace that is comfortable for EVERYONE in the group.
7 – Be self-sufficient. As per our standard guidelines, all riders must be prepared for bad weather, emergency, punctures, nutrition etc. This is particularly important now as sharing items would increase transmission risk.
8 – Hygiene. Please be extra careful when nose blowing etc. If you absolutely must clear your nose or spit then you MUST drop to the back of the group when safe to do so and clear away from any other rider. We recommend all riders carry hand sanitiser and a face mask in case of shop visits etc.
9 – Stopping. When stopping for whatever reason (punctures, nutrition, coffee stops etc) maintain social distancing and good hygiene. Be aware of other road and pavement users and do not create an obstacle to traffic or pedestrians. Café stops are ok but plan ahead and particularly ensure social distancing and good hygiene.
10 – Membership, Membership Card and 999. Although this is not a Club organised activity you must be paid up club member. This is to ensure we have up to date contact details in the event of Track and Trace being necessary. Please bring your membership card on all rides (you do not need to show it). This is so that in the event of any incident all riders have emergency contact details with them. In the event of any accident that you are not immediately confident of handling safely then you should call 999 without delay.
11 – Public Perception. Be aware of and courteous to members of the public who won’t be conversant with cycling guidelines or may be more cautious of Covid-19 risks. You are representing all cyclist while out and specifically the club if in club kit.
