If you have entered this year's Blenheim Triathlon but have not taken part in triathlon before, the open water swim can be quite a daunting prospect!
For the 16th consecutive year, Oxford Tri will be running 4 open water training sessions in the run up to the Blenheim event. The sessions are led by our very experienced BTF qualified coaching team and are supported by many of our experienced club members. They are open to complete beginners through to more experienced competitors looking for a refresher. Over the years we have coached many swimmers and given them the confidence and skills to swim in open water and enjoy the experience.
The sessions are an ideal way to familiarise yourself with open water swimming and ensure that your Blenheim experience is as memorable as the location!! These sessions are also invaluable if you are planning to complete in any other open water triathlons during the season. Places are limited, so to ensure you get a personal service book now to kick start your season!
These sessions are perfect for:
- Helping you acclimatise to the water temperature
- Giving you an opportunity to get used to your wetsuit
- Learning how to put your wetsuit on & take it off
- Learning how to swim in a straight line - not as easy as you think!!!
- Getting you confident in the water
- Learning how to manage the post swim-transition
- Practicing open water swim starts
- Giving you a taste of what to expect in the water on race day
- Ensuring you fully enjoy the first leg of the race
We run the sessions by splitting you into small groups based on confidence and ability. Each group is accompanied into the water by at least one experienced open water swimmer, and there is always at least one canoeist on the water at all times.
We take our time. Week 1 is all about acclimatisation - getting you used to the wetsuit and the water. We then add in more skills and experiences as the weeks go on, building up to the final session where we mimic race conditions to give you a taste of what's to come on race day.
Sessions start at 8.00am and run every Saturday from 2nd to 23rd May 2020.
The venue is: Dorchester Sailing Club, Abingdon Road, Dorchester on Thames, Oxon, OX10 7LP (www.dorchestersailingclub.org.uk). There is plenty of parking at the sailing club.
