Chilly Duathlon – Headington Hill Runs - Sunday Rides

9BAR Chilly Duathlon – Sunday 19th Feb

Just over a week to go until the first event of the year in the Club Championships – the 9BAR Chilly Duathlon. This is a 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run duathlon at Castle Combe race circuit near Chippenham – so flat, fast and traffic free and you are pretty much guaranteed tropical weather conditions....! So if you’re ready to get racing and scoring in the Club Champs, full details and entries still available here:

Headington Hill Runs

A quick plug for Tuesday evening’s Headington Hill run session for those that haven’t been before. This is a great session to build your run speed. We meet at the bottom of Headington Hill by the park gate lodge house and run 1 mile laps up the hill and back down through the park. It is a non coached session but Bernard Calnan leads it and always makes sure everyone knows what they are doing, starting with a gentle warm-up lap with everyone together. Run at your own pace or in groups.

There are no changing facilities but normally someone has a car where kit can be left – avoid valuables.  A word of warning – there is a strong possibility of a pub visit afterwards so bring some £££s if you fancy a restorative drink afterwards!

Sunday Rides

This Sunday we again have three planned rides going out. We will have Intermediate 1 led by Dana, I will lead Intermediate 2 and Dave Broadribb will take a Steady group.

We won’t always be running Steady rides (probably another 3 weeks in this series) so if you’re looking to build your pace to join an intermediate group in the spring now is the time to jump onto the steady rides.

Steady ride for those new to group riding, gentle pace around 30 miles, intermediate 2 a little faster and longer and Intermediate 1 for the more confident – speeds upto 26kph (16mph) – more details at:

As the forecast is looking cold for the weekend, keep an eye on Facebook for any last minute ride notifications. Even if it’s not icy it will be very cold with windchill so dress appropriately. Rides are likely to be shorter due to the temperature. Details to be posted by your ride leaders on FB later. Normal meet up and depart from Oxsrad at 9.15.
