Oxford Tri News - 10th November 2017
Coaches video – Bike Maintenance Course – Age Group Talk/Social – London Marathon entry draw – Christmas BaRTT – AGM – Cotswold 113 and Classic – Club Champs - Sunday Rides
Plenty of announcements and dates for your diary this week so I’ll try and keep the verbiage to a minimum!
We had planned that this year’s Dinner would have been very much in honour of our coaching team but perhaps this got a bit lost between courses. If you were at the dinner you will have seen Nathan’s excellent video homage to our club coaches. If you weren’t there (or had your head down in your main course at the time) there is a link to the video below. Do take 5 minutes to watch it through and take note of the stat’s that Nathan has included. I don’t think any of us take our coaches for granted but the amount of time Nathan and all our coaches put in for free all year long really is incredible. So on behalf of the club – really a massive thank you to Nathan and all of our coaches!
Bike Maintenance Course
Kevin Biggs will be running a bike maintenance course next Thursday evening at the Coach House in Headington Quarry. The course is targeted to those that are new to cycling and bike maintenance and will focus primarily on puncture repair and pre and post ride safety checks. Bring your own bike if you want/can and some basic tools such as pump, tyre levers, multi tool etc and Kevin (and I think Ian Smith) will run through how to use them.
There are only eight places available but do join the wait list if full as we will look to put on another course soon if popular.

Age Group Talk and Social
We now have a date and venue for our Age Group evening – this will be Thursday 30th November at the Coach House in Headington Quarry. We will have several AG experienced members and coaches on hand to say a few words on their experiences and to run through opportunities and qualification procedures. But it will be an informal session with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to discuss. In fact if you have any specific questions in advance please do email them to your Captains, Alain and Tracy – captain [at] oxfordtri [dot] co [dot] uk so that they can prepare some answers that will be of interest to everyone. Everyone is welcome and we will lay on some drinks and pizza for a small ££ contribution. Please do sign-up so we have an idea of numbers in advance.

London Marathon Club Entry
As we are now affiliated to England Athletics we are entitled to one guaranteed entry spot to the London Marathon in 2018. We will draw names of interested parties from a hat for this spot but you must be registered with EA under Oxford Tri by the end of November to be eligible.
EA registration here: https://oxfordtri.co.uk/english-athletics-membership-info
Diary date – Saturday 16th December at 11am for our annual festive celebration of poor taste in Christmas fancy dress! As ever this is a regular BaRRT (over our shorter single bike lap course at Oxsrad) but with a festive twist and retiring to suitable tavern afterwards to recover. More details to follow closer to the time.
AGM Date – Tuesday 23rd Jan
We now have a date for the AGM – Tuesday 23rd January, 7pm at Oxsrad. We will have committee elections and there will be a vote on some proposed changes to the club constitution so an important meeting. Formal notification of the AGM will follow, along with proposed constitution changes but for anyone that is interested in joining the committee (either formally as full committee member, or in a specific role but not necessarily formally on the committee) you could take a look at our committee positions documents on the website here: https://oxfordtri.co.uk/history-and-constitution
And as if taking part in the full democratic process of the club wasn’t exciting enough by itself – we’ll have beer and pizza!
Cotswold 113 and Classic club entry
Liz will soon be finalising the club entry for these two popular local half distance races (of which 113 is also in the 2018 Club Champs). If you want to enter through the discounted club early bird booking then you need to make payment here in the next few days:

2018 Club Championship events published
Next Year’s club champs event list has now been published so that you can plan your season! We haven’t fully updated the website or calendar yet but you can find a list of all events by scrolling to the bottom of this page and click on the 2018 link: https://oxfordtri.co.uk/club-championship-2017
This Sunday we have Fast and Intermediate 1 rides. Dana will lead out a Fast ride (26 kph +,details tba) and Rob Davies has an Int 1 (24 – 26kph guide speed) 56 mile run down to Henley over the Chilterns planned here: https://www.strava.com/routes/11094138
Group numbers are becoming quite large and we don’t have enough ride leaders to split groups so consider downloading the route to your Garmin in advance as large groups can (and do) split up mid ride.
Rides depart from Oxsrad at 9.15 as normal. Weather is looking dry but again quite cold, with a north wind.
