Boxing Day Social Run – Christmas and NY sessions – Entries Open for Sprint Tri and Duathlon – 2018 Membership open – Wiggle Affiliate program - Sunday Rides

So we’re nearly there for 2017 and almost all ready to do it all again but BETTER in 2018!

Last Saturday’s Christmas BaRTT involved a slightly different format to normal – due to icy roads the bike leg was replaced with a mince pie transition and a canter around the sports field in bike helmets. It was a strong look and I’d like to think we encouraged any casual passers-by that perhaps multisport might just be the ticket for them in 2018! Team Merrett continued their seasonal winning streak with a joint win as best dressed elves and Neil Dighton took best dressed bike for managing to keep 500 yards of tinsel out of his chainset! And thanks to Maite for a great buffet at the Victoria Arms – her top negotiation skills saw a spread that our entire membership would have struggled to get through!

And thank you to everyone for your donations and entries – we raised £125 for Oxsrad which is fantastic! If anyone forgot to give me their entry or would like to donate anyway you can easily text a donation to Oxsrad like this: OXSR16 £5 to 70070. And if you want a reminder why, click on the homepage video link here:

And belated congratulations to David Laskow-Pooley who I forgot to mention won the technical improver prize at the Track awards the previous week – sorry David or as you may now be known – the “Technician”!

And finally we are happy to announce that Jon Dodd has been randomly chosen as the winner of a guaranteed entry to the London Marathon through our England Athletics affiliation.

Boxing Day Run and Mulled Wine Afters

Nic Defillion and Jon Dodd are hosting a social run around the Baldons on Boxing Day. Emphasis definitely on social pace with I believe a choice of routes (different to previous years) of 6 and 10k (ish). As the pub is closed on Boxing Day meet at the Marsh Baldon Village Hall at 11 am. And Jon and Katia have kindly offered mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate at theirs afterwards. All are welcome (though dogs must be tied up outside) but please use the sign-up so they know roughly how many to expect. Details and sign-up here:

Christmas and NY Sessions

There are no more sessions in 2017 (get over it – have a break!) but it’s almost business as usual from Jan 2nd. See below for sessions but everything will be running as normal except there will be no Monday Headington Swim or Oxsrad Spin and no Tuesday Turbo. See you on the other side!

Eynsham Duathlon and Club Sprint Tri

I’m delighted to say that Tracy has confirmed dates for both the Eynsham Duathlon (which we now host) and our own Sprint Tri at Radley. Entry is now open for both and we are holding 2017 entry prices until the end of the year – so if you are planning your events for 2018 or know someone that might be interested – get in there quick! The Duathlon is on the 25th March at 9.30am and the Sprint Tri will be in it’s normal late summer bank holiday slot – Monday 27th August.

2018 Membership Now Open

We have now received 2018 membership cards and renewal is live on the website. There’s no immediate rush, as ever your 2017 membership is valid through January 2018 but equally don’t leave it until Jan 31st and expect your new card by return.... Just saying!

Wiggle Affiliate Program

Just a reminder that if you are buying anything from Wiggle please remember to access Wiggle via the website link on our homepage – conveniently placed under the “Renew Membership” tab in the left hand panel. So far your purchases have raised nearly £170 for the club. Doesn’t sound huge perhaps but that’s almost two memberships and as you will hear at the AGM soon our financial model relies on healthy membership numbers to support all the great free sessions we all enjoy – so keep clicking!

Sunday Rides

There are no official rides on Sunday but I will be going for a ride of around 40 miles or so at something like a mid Intermediate pace – say 15 -16 mph. Anyone is welcome to join me or post something else. Currently it’s looking mild and dryish. A coffee stop is on the cards as we were cheated by the weather of our annual festive stop last Sunday (hardly a single case of hypothermia reported!) I’ll be at Oxsrad at the normal time (though Oxsrad itself may not be open) – 9.15

So to finish, a massive shout out to everyone that has helped out and made the club what it is throughout 2017. And that’s to all members and everyone that has volunteered and in particular to everyone on the committee and our fantastic coaching team. What a great excuse to watch Nathan’s video again...

Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year!
