Club Award Nominations - Turbo intro session – Club Champs results - Sunday Rides – Steady Rides

Congratulations to Doug Woollett who rounded off an excellent season with an overall win at Conquer the Chilterns Sprint, and Neil Dighton in second place, just a minute off Doug and a clear 4 minutes ahead of 3rd place – fantastic! And in Rotterdam at the ITU Worlds Richard Dunbabin was first Brit home and 8th overall in Class – great results all!

Club Awards – Nominations open

A reminder to get your nominations in for the club awards. Categories are Best Male and Best Female Athlete of the Year, Most Improved Male and Female Athlete of the Year and Club Member of the Year. Nominations will close on the 2nd October with voting open on the 3rd until the 10th October.

Please give your nominations and subsequent votes plenty of thought – this really is an important event for the club each year. If possible please include a brief reason why you have nominated someone.

Intro Turbo Session on Tuesday

This week’s Turbo is open to all but is particularly directed towards those that are new to turbo (static bike) training.  There will be several coaches on hand to ensure good technique, explain what’s going on and to help with turbo set-up. As ever, you must bring your bike, a towel and plenty to drink (you will be working hard!). If you have a turbo then bring it along but if not the club has seven or eight you can use – first come first served. Sign-up not required.

Club Champs Results

So we’ve had the final event in this year’s club champs now. Please make sure you get your results entered into the website as soon as possible. You’ve got until Sunday to enter Vitruvian results and another week to get your Chilterns results entered. If you’ve missed any from earlier in the season I suggest a grovelling email to Alain at captain [at] oxfordtri [dot] co [dot] uk to see if he might include them this late in the day!

Sunday Rides

This Sunday we will have Intermediate 1 and 2 rides. As ever Intermediate 2 is the slower ride, targeting around 14- 15 mph average and ideal for those getting back into bike fitness or moving up from Steady rides and Intermediate 1 is a little faster at 15 - 16 mph average for those with a bit more confidence and fitness, possibly taking the step up from Intermediate 2.

Dave Broadribb will be leading Intermediate 2 out to the West of Oxford on a relatively flat route and I will lead Intermediate 1, route to be decided but I think a little run out to the Chilterns is likely! Details of both rides on FB shortly.

As ever, anyone is welcome to lead faster rides, either post on FB or turn up at Oxsrad and make a plan.

Good luck to everyone racing his weekend. Bruno Viola and Freddie Braithwaite-Exley are both going long at Ironman Italy at Cervia. Not only is this Freddie’s first full distance race but I believe it’s also his first tri! And good luck to the ladies swimming long at the inaugural Wild Wye 7k swim around Symonds Yat – if it wasn’t late September I’d almost be envious!
