Age Group Evening – Headington Pool – Kit Order – Oxford Tri Video - Sunday Rides
Age Group Evening
Next Thursday evening we will be holding an informal talk and discussion session on the Age Group racing scene. A few club members have successfully represented GB in Age Group events around the world while most of us will have some idea of the program but some members particularly those new to the sport may not be aware of the opportunities (that are genuinely open to eveyone) and in particular the process required to qualify.
So we hope that this evening will give anyone that thinks they might be interested in racing for team GB at any distance the opportunity to find out more.
Andrew Thorndyke will relate his own experiences in GB qualification and racing at Cozumel. And seasoned AG racers, Nathan, Jane, Alain and Tracy will also be talking and answering your questions.
Anyone is welcome to come, whether experienced, ready to race in 2018 or looking for direction further ahead. As mentioned above AG racing covers all distances from Sprint through to Full Distance (loosely IM distance) as well as Duathlon and Aquathlon.
We will lay on some pizza and beers/cokes for a small contribution so please sign-up here to give us an idea of numbers. Venue is the Coach House in Headington Quarry (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Coach+Houseemail@example.com,-1.1996726,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x41ea279c00c32cf9!8m2!3d51.7566244!4d-1.1996726)
For a while we’ve had some concerns about air quality at Headington Pool after complaints of breathing difficulties from some members. Headington School confirm that they check water quality three times a day and that chlorine levels are within recommended limits. They advise that Combined Chlorine (airborne chlorine as I understand it) is generated as a result of impurities in the water eg sweat, make-up, deodorant, shampoo etc. That is why we ask that all swimmers shower in water only before entering the pool. However we are additionally now going to reduce swimmer numbers to see if this reduces the problem. Of course we realise that Headington is one of the most popular swim sessions of the week but equally we must take action to improve conditions in the pool for everyone so apologies to those that can’t swim – and if you are swimming – keep showering!
Chis is looking to put an order in for kit with our supplier, 2XU. As you may know Chris keeps some stock of trisuits and other items but generally to kit is supplied to order on a 6 – 8 week lead time. So if you’re thinking about racing kit for spring 2018 contact Chris to see what’s in stock and what you might need to order. kit [at] oxfordtri [dot] co [dot] uk
Oxford Tri Video
We like Nathan’s coaches video so much we’ve put a condensed version of it on the website. It’s on the home page in the left hand panel, “Welcome to Oxford Tri” under the “Members get all this!” heading. Make sure you’re logged OUT to find it!
We think it will be a great way to encourage new members to join so if you know anyone that might consider joining the club why not send them the link:
This Sunday we’re a little short of ride leaders as its Eynsham 10k. I will lead something Intermediate – details to be advised on FB soon.
Rides depart from Oxsrad at 9.15 as normal. Looks like it will be dry and bright but cold with possible frost.

Good luck to everyone racing at Eynsham 10k this Sunday and have a great week!
