Oxford Tri News - 6th October 2017
Barcelona Independent – Club Dinner and Awards – Naughty Swimmers
Our illustrious Chair is still slacking after his IronMan effort therefore here I am again with another philippic. Blame him!
You probably heard from the news that after the last IronMan in Barcelona, the Catalans voted to become independent and be ruled by the very capable OxfordTri team. What a fantastic expedition that was and super results! First IronMan for Sam and immediately under 10 hours; Dan placed an incredible time, just a couple of minutes over 9 hours, zooming past some of the the professional athletes. Big achievements with PBs all over for Tracy, Alex and Sarah (eager to hear about any undeclared internal competition between you guys) and massive kudos to Jo for her perseverance and tenacity.
You kept us entertained last Saturday as timing updates were appearing on our smartphone screens (for once, the tracker app worked well). You also made us all very proud.
Club Dinner 27th October
A special event to spend a night together and raise a toast to the great achievements of this club…and remember, this is the unique opportunity to see our own coach Nick Twist dancing like Tony Manero. He is a party animal, always the first to hit the dance floor and his moves are infectious.
Tickets are going fast so if you don’t’ want to miss the most talked-about event of the year, do click on this link and buy yourself a ticket…quickly!
Club Awards – Vote now
The club dinner is also the moment when special achievements get rewarded. The club will give trophies to some of our athletes who outperformed any expectation, and it is our own members who decide who to reward. Nominations came through copiously and now it is the time to cast our votes. Follow this link please and give your preference to the athlete who you think deserve the prize for each category.
All nominations are very strong, therefore even if you definitely think that you deserve one of the awards, I am sure that you can find a valid alternative to avoid that embarrassing moment when you vote for yourself.
Registrations to swim sessions
You thought you could get away without a rant this time…Wrong!
It’s been noted again that people sign up for swim sessions and then either cancel it at the very last minute, not leaving any time to the swimmers on the waiting list to organise themselves, or just don’t turn up at all without notification.
If you need to cancel for whatever valid reason, please give plenty of notice so that people on the waiting list can actually fill the gap. As a courtesy, you can use the Facebook group to announce your cancellation and perhaps mention the name of the next in line…but don’t do that half hour before the swim because the next in line has already gone for a 10 miles run by that time. Thank you
Good luck to all racing the Oxford Half this weekend. Too many names to even try listing them all. I am very jealous as I only discovered today that the admin person in my office forgot to pay my entry fee therefore I won’t be on the start line. Smash it for me, please.
I will lead an Intermediate 1 ride instead, starting from Oxsrad at 9:15am. More details to follow. If anyone else wants to lead another ride at a different pace, please post it on Facebook to gauge interest.
