Water Safety Officers – Lake Improvements – Silverstone 9 UP TT – BaRTT # 4 – Radley Pool and Club Sprint Tri - Sunday Rides

A big thank you to everyone that volunteered at Blenheim last weekend and especially to Tracy, Eddy and Mark who did the double – Saturday and Sunday. As predicted it was hard work and a long day but very rewarding to be able to help so many first timers with their first Tri. This year I don’t think we saw any bike child carriers but special mention must go to the guy who raced on a classic 70’s Raleigh Chopper!

Well done to everyone that raced at Blenheim and special mention to Andy Queralt who continues to improve, this year winning his age group in 1:11:34 and coming a fantastic 8th overall. Also a strong team at ITU Olympic distance qualifier, Deva Tri, with Richard Dunbabin taking another AG win and what looks like automatic Rotterdam qualification for Richard and Robert Pettingell.

And at Cotswold 113 middle distance, Oxford Tri had a team of 19 with an AG 2nd place for Angharad Lewis and 17th overall in gender for both Doug Woollett and Sarah Spruytenburg.

Water Safety Officers at the Lake

We currently only have one swim safety officer for tomorrow and none for Thursday. Please sign up if you can or swim sessions will have to be cancelled. Booking for safety volunteering is normally open at least a month in advance so please book well in advance if you can so we don’t need to chase volunteers every week. If you’re a regular lake swimmer then please think about volunteering at least twice over the season. As mentioned before – we do not provide a water rescue service – so no life saving skills are expected and definitely no jumping in the lake to rescue people. Nic will always make sure you have the briefing info so don’t hold back if you haven’t done it before - Thanks!

Lake Improvements

We are formulating a plan to build sand bag steps into the lake. Nathan will be calling for some volunteers for an hour or so – probably after a Saturday swim soon. If you can help, please let Nathan know.

Silverstone 9 UP TT

We have three teams entered for this evening’s 9 UP TT, one men’s, one women’s and a mixed team. While Silverstone is not exactly on our doorstep, if anyone is local or interested do come along and watch – it’s quite a spectacle with 720 competitors in 80 teams taking part. Spectator entry is free or anyone is welcome to join us for meal afterwards at Italian Buongiorno e Buonasera on Cowley Road at 10pm (but let me know if you’re coming so I can add to reservation). Racing starts at 7pm and our teams are off at 8pm. Happy HAMMERTIME to everyone taking part!

BaRTT # 4 Entry open

Entry as is now open for next Tuesday evening’s Bike and Run TT – normal venue at Horseman Close by Oxsrad. As before, entry is available on the night, but if you can enter in advance it saves us a lot of time getting everyone registered for timing. Standard and short distance available.

And a volunteer or two would be great for number shouting and /or iPad timing app.

Radley Pool Update and Club Sprint Tri

A quick update on Radley pool progress – it looks like they are on track to re-open on the 1st of July so we hope to be returning to our usual Wednesday evening 7.30pm 90 min slot very soon. Great news for regular Radley swimmers.  Also great news for Tracy who was starting to bite her fingernails – as she is organising our August Bank Holiday Sprint Tri at Radley as usual - entries for which are now open and beginning to sell. As usual we hope many of you will be able to volunteer on the day but if you have friends or family that are interested to race or give Tri a go then send them this link to enter: https://oxfordtri.co.uk/oxford-tri-sprint-triathlon

Sunday Rides

Currently we just have an Intermediate 1 leader led ride this Sunday which I will lead. I will post a route and details soon on FB but likely to be around 50 miles at 15 – 16 mph.

As ever, if anyone else wants to post other rides please feel free – just give a guideline on distance and speed so people know if it’s suitable for them or not.

Normal depart from Oxsrad at 9.15 am. Generally warm with a bit of wind from SW and possibility of light rain.

Sign up and location details https://oxfordtri.co.uk/events-calendar

As ever good luck to everyone racing this weekend, notably we have Alain Torri, Harriet Bowyer and Dan Anderton racing for GB in Denmark at the ETU middle distance championships tomorrow and then at 7.30 am PST on Sunday morning our Treasurer, Ben Angless, will be jumping off a perfectly good boat into the shark infested San Francisco Bay to race the Escape from Alcatraz Tri – applications for the Treasurer vacancy opening soon!
